Business and Program Manager, Notre Dame Environmental Change Initiative

Joanna McNulty serves as the Business and Program Manager of the Environmental Change Initiative. McNulty holds a B.S. in Biology (1990) from the University of Notre Dame. She returned to the University in 2002 and has served in several capacities including research, outreach and administrative support. Prior to her time at Notre Dame, McNulty practiced as a secondary science teacher and as an outdoor educator.

As the Business and Program Manager, McNulty runs the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Change Initiative and ND-GAIN. As an experienced research administrator, McNulty provides the full suite of administrative support for ND-GAIN from personnel management, to organizing conferences and meetings, to managing as much as seventeen million dollars in grant funds and activities. McNulty’s interests, as well as her education and experience, enhance her ability to forecast ND-GAIN needs, both from a financial and a personnel standpoint.

In her various support roles, McNulty has had the opportunity to work directly with a diverse group of partners including resource managers, educators, museums, NGO’s and many other universities. Her portfolio includes work with the John G. Shedd Aquarium to develop a permanent gallery focused on invasive species. Throughout her career, McNulty has been interested in the public understanding and perception of environmental issues and has co-authored several talks and a paper in this arena, specifically on the public perception of risks associated with invasive species.
