Mr. Kenneth Hersh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Global Adaptation Institute (GAIN), led a panel on adaptation at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland on January 26, 2012.
The World Economic Forum interviewed Global Adaptation Institute Board Member, Robert Edwards, in its “Ask a Leader” video series. Edwards discusses the progress being made at Davos in shifting the climate debate toward adaptation.
The Global Adaptation Institute’s Dr. Bruno Sanchez-Andrade Nuño published a commentary on the growing importance of adaptation in international dialogues, “Más Acción, Menos Palabras,” in the Madrid-based daily newspaper, La Rázon.
Issues important to adaptation were featured in several meetings held during the first day of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Ambassador of Panamá to the United States, Mario E. Jaramillo, noted the importance of the Global Adaptation Institute as a resource in providing information to help his country prepare for natural disasters. These statements were made during a signing ceremony with the World Bank to develop a National Policy for Integrated Disaster Risk.
The Global Adaptation Institute is a non-profit organization guided by a vision of building resilience to climate change and other global forces as a key component to sustainable development. Our mission is to enhance the world’s understanding of the urgency for adaptation to climate change and other global forces and the support needed through private and public investments for developing countries.
Our view is pragmatic, not dogmatic. Climate change is a reality. It is already having an impact. With a strong commitment from the private sector, the world’s adaptation goals can be achieved. Our priority is to see real results and real benefits, immediately.
We will raise awareness. We will help to mobilize the private sector. We will develop metrics, indicators, and other rigorous tools to help produce the greatest positive impact from resources used. We will directly fund pilot projects in adaptation and assist other private and public donors to do the same.
