The Annual Meeting & Scientific Convening of the Global Adaptation Institute (GAIN) centered on one theme – the urgent need to adapt to the changing global climate requires pragmatic solutions with the private sector leading the effort.
Innovative examples of adaptation efforts to save lives and improve livelihoods were recognized May 9 at the Annual Reception of GAIN’s 2012 Annual Meeting & Scientific Convening in Washington, D.C.
New alliances between GAIN Prize winners are forming to build resilience to global challenges in local communities. One such alliance developed from one organization’s need for a technological-based solution to track live data and another organization’s expertise in doing just that.
GAIN Founding CEO Juan José Daboub spoke to more than 70 youth on April 18 at the 2012 International Solidarity Forum at the United Nations and World Youth Alliance headquarters in New York.
The Global Adaptation Institute (GAIN) honored four organizations leading adaptation efforts on the ground in its inaugural awarding of the GAIN Prize. GAIN is honored to introduce you to one of them, Climate Adaptation in Mountain Basins in the Andean Region (CAMBIAR) led by Engineers Without Borders-USA, Austin Chapter.
The Global Adaptation Institute is a non-profit organization guided by a vision of building resilience to climate change and other global forces as a key component to sustainable development. Our mission is to enhance the world’s understanding of the urgency for adaptation to climate change and other global forces and the support needed through private and public investments for developing countries.
Our view is pragmatic, not dogmatic. Climate change is a reality. It is already having an impact. With a strong commitment from the private sector, the world’s adaptation goals can be achieved. Our priority is to see real results and real benefits, immediately.
We will raise awareness. We will help to mobilize the private sector. We will develop metrics, indicators, and other rigorous tools to help produce the greatest positive impact from resources used. We will directly fund pilot projects in adaptation and assist other private and public donors to do the same.
